Hi, I was just looking at your training blog. I live in Ravensdale and have a salon in Black Diamond. What events are you looking to do in Black Diamond. I’m thinking about doing multi-sport competitions but need some inspiration as to where and how to get started. I’ve been doing alot of reading/research but its overwhelming (equipment choices etc.) Any tips?? :)

Are you just getting into multisport? If so, that’s way cool… it is a lot of fun… the Black Diamond event I am referring to is at Nolte State Park on September 14th. There are Sprint, Olympic and 1/2 Ironman events that weekend.

I realize you are not very close to Bothell, but the Northshore YMCA have programs for folks who are interested in multisport and looking for guidance and where to begin.

We have weekly swims at a local lake, and weekend bike and run workouts. Here is a link to our website: http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/NorthshoreYTri/... anyone can join…

Another group to reach out to is the Seattle Triathlon Club - http://www.seatri.org….

In terms of “where do I begin”, what is it that you want to do? A sprint distance (a ~ 1/4 mile swim, 12-15 mile bike, 3 mile run)?

For your first event, look at what equipment you have first before investing in new… the bike you have may be enough to at least get your feet wet in the sport - you might need to get it tuned up and fitted for you! Runners are important - find a local running store for shoes and ask someone to help fit you for a good pair… for swimming in the lakes, some triathlon shops will have rental suits - that’s a good way to see what you like; full sleeves or now sleeves… I have what is referred to as a “farmer john” - no sleeves…

I could go on and on… feel free to email me at realrexy@yahoo.com if you are interested in any more details…

Cheers, and welcome to Triathlon!

OMG I’m so sorry. You got back to me right away but I didn’t know about it. It didn’t show up on my dashboard. I’m trying to figure out how the communication back and forth works on this web site. Thanks so much for the information. I did get a new bike, a Specialized Roubaix Elite. I LOVE IT. If I would to do a tri it would be a sprint and they just had the Cascade Edge a couple weeks ago. It close by, I run there alot (Deep Lake - Nolte Park). I would like to do the Duathlon in Sept. I have three kids so it would be hard to try and also take up swim training but maybe next year!! This year I will be sticking to running events, cycling events and a combo of the two. I know I could do a tri its just trying to fit 30 hours into a 24 hour day. Again, thanks for all the information and maybe I will see you in September!! take care
